The Mandalorians Gina Carano speaks out about social media backlash over her conservative tweets – Daily Mail

Gina Carano opened up about facing backlash from the Star Wars community over her conservative and anti-mask tweets amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The 38-year-old Mandalorian star, who received criticism after slamming Democrats for adhering to coronavirus safety protocols in November, spoke with YouTuber Drunk 3PO about her controversial social media presence late last month.

‘People need to be OK with having conversations,’ she told the host. ‘With having difficult conversations, with having different opinions. What’s wrong with having a different opinion?’

Gina did not address how the CDC has asked the American people to wear masks to help stop the spread of COVID-19. As of Wednesday, there are 381K people dead in the US from COVID-19.

She continued: ‘Why does everybody have to straight go to demoralizing because maybe they just didn’t think the way you did?’

The actress also noted that she is not deterred by critics and stays vocal to prevent them from controlling Twitter and other social media platforms.

‘My whole perspective on this is, I’ve seen people get bullied off of Twitter on both sides,’ the former MMA fighter explained. ‘I don’t like bullying, and If I don’t stay present, which I don’t even necessarily want to stay present that often, I want to make art, art is my passion, but if I don’t stay present then other people win.’

She continued: ‘Other people win in bullying people off of platforms and there needs to be a more balanced platform.’

Insisting she won’t be silenced, the Texas-born performer pointed out that ‘a lot of people are not bothered by’ her presence on Twitter and she chooses to focus on her fans.

‘I bring the fire out in people. I’m not sure why,’ she said just weeks after sharing a snarky meme of two people putting face masks over their eyes like blindfolds.

‘BREAKING NEWS: DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT LEADERS NOW RECOMMENDS [sic] WE ALL WEAR BLINDFOLDS ALONG WITH MASKS SO WE CAN’T SEE WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON,’ the meme read.

At the time, many of Carano’s 580,700 Twitter followers were outraged and tweeted that she should be removed from the hit Disney+ Star Wars spinoff series.

After her latest interview, people turned to the platform again to share their thoughts about not wanting ‘transphobic racist a**holes in The Mandalorian.’

Many tweets point out how her tweets promoting hateful views and misinformation conflict with The Walt Disney Company’s support of Black Lives Matter and Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s recent statement condemning the violent act of rioters at the U.S. Capitol.

One Twitter user suggested Chapek review how Carano has ‘shared dangerous conspiracy theories, treated the pandemic as a hoax, and been openly transphobic,’ which they pointed out doesn’t ‘seem very in line with’ with his brand.

Another tweeted that ‘she clearly isn’t afraid to be fired by Disney- and I think that speaks volumes not only about her, but also about Disney’s complicity.’

Carano was previously called out in September for putting ‘beep/bop/boop’ in her profile, seemingly mocking trans people who put she/her/hers next to their name.

Another fan, @alderaansben, added, ‘Its more than political differences. She is spewing hate and violent, extremist ideals, and aligningn herself with white supremacists,’ adding #FireGinaCarano.
